Movie Review OVERLOAD!

A $750K movie is out-earning franchise horror, a brutal new action film is making audiences gasp, and He-Man just delivered one of the most fun fantasy swings in years. That’s the kind of movie season we’re living in, and I’m here for all of it.

I start with a big life update: I’m officially working with Detroit’s Woodward Sports Network, and we’re launching a new channel called Woodward Cinema. The goal is simple: high-energy movie reviews, entertainment news, interviews, and on-the-ground coverage that treats film fans like film fans. I also explain how my podcast and Woodward Cinema can grow together, because the best part of this hobby is sharing the experience with people who actually care.

From there, I hit the headlines and the grades. Obsession keeps climbing toward legendary box office territory, and I break down why word of mouth can beat marketing budgets. I review Backrooms (jaw-dropping visuals, uneven pacing), Passenger (great setup, frustratingly dumb character writing), and Tuner (a limited-release adult thriller that deserves a bigger audience). I also rave about The Furious, a fight-choreography monster with Raid-level intensity, and I’m still annoyed it’s getting shoved into a crowded release weekend.

To close it out, I go scorched-earth on Scary Movie 6, then I pivot to the heart: Power Ballad surprised me with real warmth, strong performances from Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, and a music-industry credit battle that hits hard. And yes, Masters Of The Universe absolutely rules: great casting, huge action, and the kind of theater crowd energy that reminds me why I keep buying tickets. Your boy is glad it has been a while, and man, this episode is going to be so jam-packed with news, information, reviews. You're gonna have to come back, listen to it multiple times. That is what this is going to be about. I got things that I need to share with you. I got movie reviews that all I've been doing is going to the movies. It's it seems like my weekends are just packed with me sitting in a theater, which at times I'm like, holy shit, I've never I've never sat in a movie theater this many times in my entire life uh in the span of like a month, a month and a half. The quality films that are out there are they're blowing my mind right now. And I'm gonna get into all of that, of course. But since I haven't been sitting in this seat for probably about 10 days, so I apologize to the listeners that are out there. Um I apologize that I haven't got into this seat in a little bit, but I've been I've been doing some things in the back. I've been doing some things in the background. I've been working on some things, and uh, like usual, this episode here is I'm not gonna edit any more of this shit. I'm just gonna be talking in this podcast, talking in this mic, doing my thing, and I I was getting more uh I was worrying too much about me going back and editing and trying to make this thing sound like uh I was some wildly professional working for a company type of podcast where I had some professional editors back there doing this and doing that. And to be honest with you, that's just not how people talk. You know, so what you're gonna get from me, it's gonna be as authentic as you can imagine moving forward on this podcast. Not that it hasn't been authentic before, but there were times when I got caught up in that editing. And right now I just want to put out content for people that I know want to listen to it. That's all there's to it.

Joining Woodward Sports Network

So I do want to break some news here. Uh, I put out, it was yesterday, that I am now working with a local media company. This local media company is it was purchased recently by some new owners and they moved the studio. I've been working with this with this company for a couple months now in the background, uh, doing some things uh on on their sports side. The the name of the company is Woodward Sports Network. It's just a Detroit-based sports online media company. Uh, if you don't follow Woodward Sports Network, go go ahead, give them a follow, subscribe to them on YouTube. All you gotta do is search Woodward Sports Network on any of the social media platforms. It'll bring you right to there. Give them a follow, give them a share. Uh that's who I've have been working with uh for the last couple couple months in the background. Uh, we've been trying to get certain things lined up. Uh, what is it? Uh the the I's crossed and the T's dotted is what I like to say, right? I'm very aware that's not how you say it. But so what has happened is Woodward Sports now is they're kind of fleshing out their product, and they decided that they want to create a cinema channel for Woodward

Launching The Woodward Cinema Channel

Sports. So it's basically just going to be a wing of Woodward Sports Network, but it's going to be Woodward Cinema. I will be working in that part of Woodward mainly moving forward. Uh, that is what I was born to do, to be honest with you, and I am so freaking jacked and excited for this opportunity. Uh, it's been being talked about for a while. When I first started working for Woodward Sports, uh, I kind of pulled a few of them aside, which which the individuals that work at Woodward Sports are just like me. Yes, they they dive deep into sports and they have these sports shows that they do. They have a morning show, an early afternoon show, and a late afternoon show. Uh, make sure to tune into those shows on YouTube. They are one of the largest shows locally for the media on YouTube, online, for the state of Michigan, and for the city of Detroit. So it's awesome to be a part of Woodward Sports. Um, but these individuals are also movie fans, television fans, uh, entertainment fans, just like me. So when I started working there, I was talking to him. I'm like, I I know this is Woodward Sports Network, but aren't we missing like a full audience of people? The the same people that that watch sports watch all types of entertainment. Why can't we have a uh a channel or a social media network of sorts that focuses just on movies, focuses just on television shows, entertainment, lifestyle. Well, that is exactly what we got now. Well, they they started to flesh that out, they started to come up with plans, and we now have Woodward Cinema, which is a separate channel from Woodward Sports Network. So if you could go on to YouTube and follow and subscribe to Woodward Cinema, you will see me making uh content, whether it's movie reviews, we we got uh interviews that are gonna be coming up with with actors, directors, we're going to be going to movie premieres or red carpet events. We're gonna have this on lock. Right now, this is just on its launching pad. It is on its launching pad, but it is to the moon with this shit. That is what we're going to be doing. Now, obviously, I have this podcast. This podcast is important to me. I will be talking about the things that I do on Woodward Cinema on my podcast, because my podcast and Woodward Cinema that they they can be family, and that is a great thing. It can help grow not only Woodward Cinema, but my podcast. Cooking with gas. So when I'm not cooking here, I'm gonna be cooking with Woodward Cinema, putting out all the content with them, putting out all of the entertainment news that all of you people enjoy from this podcast and and and whatever else we can dive into. We are going to be going big time with Woodward Cinema. That is exciting news for me. That I get to do something that I truly love and enjoy, which is talk about movies, talk about television shows, talk about what's hot and streaming, what just dropped in those theaters, which we know the theaters are on fire right now with content, with movies that are just coming out at an insane clip in 2026. This has been something that I've that I've never even experienced as a film and movie fan and student. I've never seen anything of this caliber in the in the entertainment industry in my life. So that is one thing that I want that I wanted to touch on first and foremost. Obsession Box Office Shockwave

So the last time I spoke to you, I was doing a giveaway for a one-wish willow from the movie Obsession. Now listen, Obsession is still in theaters right now. It was supposed to get released on digital. You were supposed to be able to watch Obsession at home on digital on June 2nd. That was the whole plan that they had. They were just gonna release it after being a couple weeks, a couple weeks of it being in theaters. However, they couldn't do that. They simply couldn't. The movie was making too much money. Right now, as of today, Obsession has made two hundred and twenty-four million dollars, basically two hundred and twenty-five million dollars. Two hundred and twenty-five million dollars on a seven hundred and fifty thousand dollar budget. Obsession now, it officially passed Scream 7 as the most successful horror movie released in 2026 right now. Scream was at $208 million on a $45 million budget. Scream 7, which which I enjoyed. I didn't expect a crazy amount of of uh magic in the Scream 7 movie. I enjoyed Scream 7, but it was a $45 million budget. It made $208 million. Obsession was made for $750,000, and it has now passed the $224 million mark. It also is the second biggest sub-million dollar film. The second bus the second biggest sub-million dollar budget film. The Blair Witch project was number one. It is number one at $248 million. Now the crazy thing about the Blair Witch project, which there's some s there's there's some things you gotta break down about Blair Witch. They're gonna say that the Blair Witch project's budget was $35,000. However, after you dig into it, you find out that a lot more money went into the Blair Witch project, especially with its promotion of the film. Um that doesn't mean uh the Blair Witch Project is one of my absolute favorite films of all time. It changed cinema forever. Changed it. So good on the Blair Witch for for being number one. But Obsession is going to beat it. Obsession will pass $248 million at the box office. I mean, right now, like I said, it's at $225 million. And then you have right after Obsession, you have Back Rooms, which Backrooms was made for $10 million. And Backrooms has made so far $212 million at the box office. These two lower budget, now it's hard to say lower budget for backrooms. I mean $10 million is a lot of money, you know, whether you're making a movie or not. $10 million is a is a shit ton of money. But but they like to to throw the lower budget in there because of what films do cost nowadays. Uh, but these directors being just YouTube individuals who are making shorts on YouTube, uh, both Curry Barker for Obsession and Kane Parsons for Backrooms. I mean, good on these guys for getting these movies to to this this point. This is insane. It's insane what's going on. And I I went and seen Obsession twice in the theater. I would go see it again. I will watch it again once it does get released. I got friends who haven't seen it yet, which actually kind of pisses me off. So if you're listening right now and you haven't seen Obsession, get your ass to the movie theater and check it out. Okay. Don't wait for this to come out because it's not coming out really anytime soon. It's going to be in the theater for the next couple weeks. You got a chance to go check it out in the theater. It's still making money on a daily basis. On a daily basis, this movie is bringing in millions of dollars. Five to seven to eight million dollars on weekends, obsession is bringing in. So it's it's just a wild situation what's going on with Obsession. I've never seen anything in my life like with what's going on in Obsession. The word of mouth that spread like wildfire, it it's it's crazy to me that it actually brought it from being this small indie film to being possibly the most profitable film in the history of movies. Simply because it was made for less than a million dollars and it is going to cross, most likely cross the $250 million mark in total. It will, without a doubt. So good on obsession. a little bit forward. I do have one thing to say about obsession, though. I did that one wish willow giveaway, and it was awesome to do. Backrooms Review And What Dragged

So I went and seen backrooms, obviously. Backrooms, which was a part of my most anticipated movies coming up in May. The podcast episode. If you haven't listened to that, you can go back and listen to that episode where I break down the movies that were coming out in the month of May. Obviously, backrooms was on that list. I will not sit here and act like I was a huge YouTube fan of backrooms. I've seen some of the videos and I understand why they wanted to make this a large scale, a large scale motion picture. It makes total sense. I feel personally that backrooms works much better as a YouTube short than a feature-length film. And I may be on the outside looking in when it comes to that opinion. That a lot of people liked backrooms. One thing I did like the was the the cinematography is out of control in backrooms. The way that it looks, the way that it feels, it definitely pulls you right into the mystery of what's going on in this world where you can walk through this wall and you go into this mysterious area uh that just continuously goes on and on and on. And you have no idea how this area was constructed or built, incepted. You have no clue where it comes from or what it is. All you know is that it continuously goes on and on and on. Now the problem that I had with backrooms was I felt at certain times that it just dragged a little bit. It wasn't necessarily that I thought this movie was bad. I did not think that Backrooms was bad. What I what I had a hard time with was just being sucked in more to what was going on, like I was in the first 30, 40 minutes of the film. I was very invested in what was going on, but then it just seemed a little repetitive to me. Uh I give the filmmakers and Kane Parson, uh uh all the people that were involved in that movie, I give them a shit ton of credit because it's a hell of an idea, just like Obsession and the one wish willow. This is an idea that can just go on and on and on. It has never-ending types of things that you can do with it. And when you can create a world like that, you are in for a shit ton of success in your life. So these individuals that had anything to do with these movies have have every right to be as successful as they are going to be moving forward in the entertainment industry. Now, personally with me, like I said, backrooms did not did not grab me by the throat and never let go, kind of like obsession did from beginning to end. And I felt a little bit, I'll say it, bored in the movie during certain scenes. Uh when I'm explaining it to someone, it it's like, imagine you're in a grocery store, and we all know, we've been in grocery stores, uh, how long the aisles are in a grocery store. So imagine you're walking down a grocery store aisle and you're watching someone walk down the aisle and they're getting to the end, and you think that when they get to the end, they're gonna turn that corner and they're gonna see something and they're gonna show you something. I was hoping for that in back rooms, but a lot of times they just turn the corner and they just continued walking down a longer aisle. And that's where I kind of was, okay, let's get from A to B a little bit quicker here. That's what what my opinion is on it. I I felt a little bored in the theater at certain times. And then it got to the point when it started to show the entities that would that are down there, when it started to show what this room is actually doing. Uh, those characters looked cool, but ultimately they didn't really grab me either. They didn't really do much for me in the department of me going, wow, this is something that I'm never gonna forget. It kind of did, like I said, in a way, it dragged. It was a little slow in my opinion. Uh people are gonna have different opinions about this movie like any other movie, but uh I I'm gonna give backrooms a C, and that is simply because I've thought that at certain parts it was just a little slow. Uh, I would go see a second one. I am very interested in what Backrooms is going to expand on. At the end, they do give you a little bit of an answer, but at the same time, they don't give you anything. So it's one of those movies where you're kind of left to have a conversation at the end, which I I have no problem doing. It's just how did we get to that ending? It took a little bit too long for me to get from A to B, and that's how I feel about backrooms. So Backroom gets a gets a C from me in that aspect, and I am going to move on now to a

Passenger Review And Dumb Choices

movie. Quickly, I'm going to talk about the movie Passenger. I was really, really hyped on this horror movie Passenger. It the the trailer was amazing. Now, a lot of these editors, they got it on point. These editors, they know how to make a movie trailer and say, hey, let's get these guys to sit in these theater seats. Because Passenger's movie trailer, like Obsession, which to me Obsession has the best movie trailer of the year right now, like Obsession, Passenger gave you just enough to keep you wondering what the hell was going on. The problem with Passenger is it simply got swallowed up by what Obsession in Backrooms was doing. It came out at the wrong time. And there's more than one movie in this lineup that I'm going to be talking about that has come out at the wrong time. And it's unfortunate because the movies that uh are good and should be getting a bigger audience simply aren't because people are getting word of mouth of these other films and they're going to see those instead. Sometimes that's just the luck of the draw that you get when you release these movies at certain times. You try to fit it in between and this weekend or that weekend, or you try to go uh up against a blockbuster that's out there and you know that your movie just isn't necessarily gonna make a ton of money, but it still should bring some money in. With Passenger, I was also a little disappointed, but only for one reason because the characters were dumb as shit. I can't have stupid characters. Listen, horror movies always have so-called stupid characters. Okay, you're like, whoa, don't go into that room. Slow down. Stop, right? You see, you see it as it's coming. Don't go, don't turn the corner. Don't go into that dark room. Don't do this. Don't do that. You always want to tell them not to do this. That's all you were doing during the movie Passenger. There was one specific scene in Passenger without giving away anything in the movie or spoiling anything. There is a scene in Passenger that takes place in a gym parking lot, and it's one of the dumbest scenes I've ever seen character-wise. No character or individual in the world would be this stupid. They would have immediately turned around and been like, okay, not happening. Going back into the gym. But instead, this character decides to continue to go down this weird pathway of I'm going to get from here to here instead of turning around and going back in where there's other individuals and I can be safe. And that right there, I was just like, I'm done with this. I can't tell you how many times I turned to my wife next to me and said, I want to throw these people off a cliff. They're that stupid. So Passenger, I didn't hate the movie. I liked the villain. The villain was legit. I liked the story of how they were basically uh, you could say, nomads. They got themselves a vehicle, they wanted to drive and travel and go to different places and live out of their vehicle. Uh, and it kind of spills into a supernatural type of situation where they're on a dark road and they see an accident and they stop and an entity kind of attaches itself to them. Uh, the story is is is awesome. I I had no problem with the story. I had a problem with the characters and the way that they were written. If I was one of those characters, a passenger, I'd be like, hey, can we make me not so stupid? I'd appreciate it. Because to be honest with you, that was my only gripe about the movie. It was a short, like 90 minutes, it gets to the point. Uh, I would say give it a shot. Give the movie a shot. It has some really good jump scares in it, but it's nothing like you're gonna get with obsession or back rooms. And you you can compare it because it's in the same type of category, even though I'm gonna say it over and over again, I do not consider Obsession a straight horror movie. I don't. Even with back rooms, back rooms even more so. This this horror genre title has been just spanned out into this massive type of thing, in my opinion. Both both obsession and backrooms to me were way more thriller than anything else. Obsession being horror thriller, suspense, and back rooms being like a mystery thriller suspense over over horror. And I'm gonna stick with that. People can can say I'm crazy, but I I don't see those as being horror movies. They I just don't. Uh, but you can label it whatever you want, they can put it out as horror, they can say what it is, but that's just how I feel about that. So if you want to, you can go see Passenger. I give Passenger a C minus. Uh just because the characters. The characters just didn't do it for me. The I liked the actor and the actress. I I just didn't like the way that they were written. That's all there is to it. Um now moving on.

Tuner Surprise Hit In Limited Release

So this next movie, I couldn't even see locally. I had to drive like 45 minutes away in order to see this movie. It was in super limited release. There was only around like four or five theaters, even within an hour, hour and a half of me, that was showing this movie. So I know for a fact this one isn't gonna make any damn money, even though it's freaking great. And that movie is tuner. So this movie tuner stars Dustin Hoffman and Leo Woodall, who Leo Woodall, I mean, this dude's what a good-looking dude. I feel I I I called him the T Mu Christopher Hemsworth. And let me tell you, that's not a bad thing, okay? I would give anything to be the Timu Christopher Hemsworth. I feel like Christopher Hemsworth was just such a uh amazing-looking human being. Hollywood was like, look, we can't always cast Christopher Hemsworth in these roles that we would like to cast him in. Not to mention, he probably isn't gonna take these roles. We need to find some individuals that like resemble him. And uh Leo Woodall definitely gives me the Christopher Hemsworth vibe, and and good for him. Lucky for him that he gets the uh the those looks. I I'd give anything to have that. But uh, this movie Tuner is an awesome, awesome movie. So this movie uh is about a piano tuner played by both Dustin Hoffman and Leo Woodall. Dustin Hoffman obviously being like Leo Woodall's uh mentor. Um he is a he runs Dustin Hoffman has a piano tuning company, and Leo Woodall works for him. He has a hearing deficiency where basically uh sounds for him are amplified. And that's why he's like this unbelievable piano tuner. He can literally break down the keys, the notes, uh sounds to a piano, and get and get pianos to sound just basically impeccable, something that uh a normal person wouldn't be able to do without this hearing deficiency that he has. Leo Woodall also played a character who in the past was like this piano prodigy. So there's a lot of um piano music in this movie, uh just just great tunes. And what happens in this film is Leo Woodall goes to work on a piano for this rich dude, which a lot of rich dudes just have pianos sitting in their their living rooms or wherever else, and pianos, even if they don't get played, need to be tuned, which I had no idea. They go out of tune just sitting there. So they say like once a year or so, pianos need to be tuned. So these guys got some work stability, that's for sure. So he goes into this this house to tune this piano and he hears some racket going on upstairs, and he can't do his work. It's hurting his hearing, because like I said, any type of sounds are amplified for his character. He has to wear like these earplugs to kind of just drown out noise, and he hears some stuff going on upstairs, so he walks upstairs, and it turns out that there's some people up there who are robbing his safe. They uh are trying to get into it, and Leo Woodall says, Hey, can you guys, you know, keep it down up here? I can't do my job, and it's too loud, it's hurting my it's hurting my hearing. And the guy's like, Listen, unless you can open this safe, you're gonna sit and wait as long as it takes for us to get into it. Well, Leo Woodall's character walks over to the safe and his hearing is so amplified that he can put his ear to the safe, hear the comms clicking in the safe, and he can open it simply by listening while he turns the knob. Now that shit's lit, okay? This had a very, very baby driver type of feel to it to me. Obviously, in Baby Driver, if any of you have seen Baby Driver, if you haven't, give it a throw. It is an awesome, awesome movie. Has a hearing deficiency in that movie as well. Uh in Baby Driver, he has tinnitus, so he he listens to his headphones and music. Uh music is a major, major, major part of both of these films, and that's awesome. So Leo Woodall's character breaks into this safe, and as you can imagine, the people are like, holy shit, this guy just broke into this safe without any tools. So they start to kind of recruit him for future jobs. And as you can imagine, shit like that just doesn't go well. You're never gonna get into bed with some criminals and have a talent like he has in this movie, and think that you're just gonna walk away after doing one job. Not to mention he personally likes the money that's coming in, so he starts to do some jobs for these guys, and and and as you as you can think, it's it goes it goes sideways real quick. And before you know it, Leo Woodall is in a position to where he is in bed with these criminals, and it is not a good thing that goes down. They start robbing these these safes out of different houses, things start to go up in flames real fast, and before you know it, uh they are way, way over their head with what they're doing. Now, this movie it's it's done really well, and it moves quick. Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman are are great in it. You don't get a lot of Dustin Hoffman now these days. I mean shit, as soon as I see him, all I see is Captain Hook. What an awesome, awesome character Dustin Hoffman played in in uh in Hook. That was that one of my favorite movies of all time. But whenever I look at him, I just see Hook. So Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman, Dustin's kind of sick in this movie. He uh has all these bills that are piling up. So of course Leo Woodall's character wants to rob some of these safes, get some money together, not only for himself, but to help Dustin Hoffman's character with the medical bills that he has and the bills that he has piling up. Uh this movie was fantastic. Awesome ride. It's too bad you can't see it, probably at your local theater. I guess it all depends on where you're located. But uh Tuner was a great movie. I had a great time in the theater. Both my wife and I really enjoyed it. Uh I would absolutely watch it again. It gets a I'd give it a B. It's I I'm just blown away. I can't say it enough by the movies that are out right now that are getting good grades. It's they're they're fantastic. And movie like Tuner, no one's gonna see it. This is another movie where I'm like, why did you even make it if you're just gonna put it in seven theaters and no one's even gonna know that it's out? So it kind of aggravates me that these movies get made and they're actually good and nobody freaking knows about them or goes to see them. But if you get a chance, go to see tuner. That is definitely a recommendation that I would give to anybody. It's an adult thriller, it has uh everything you need in a film in order to keep you on the edge of your seat, but also you also engage you and make you care about the characters at the same time. So give tuner a try. So I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek showing of my second most anticipated movie of the year.

Mystery Screening Reveals The Furious

Uh I bought a ticket for what was uh a mystery showing. Our theaters here, this is really, really cool, actually. So our uh theaters, actually around the country, they have what's called a mystery showing. You could buy cheaper tickets, you have no idea what the movie is that you're going to see. All it gives you is the rating and why it is rated. This movie that I was seeing was it was saying that it was rated R for strong bloody violence. I'm seated when you tell me that. I'm ready. Okay, let's go. So I buy tickets to this mystery movie. After doing some research, I kind of figured out what that mystery movie was gonna be before it got released. Uh, usually these movies that come out in the mystery format, they're films that are gonna be coming out within the next couple weeks. And when you have that rating and you have why it's rated that way, if you're a film fan, you can go in, you can start to dig a little bit and see what movies are coming out, and you could kind of pinpoint. Um, you can't be 100% sure, but you can kind of pinpoint what the film is gonna be. So I was lucky enough to get a viewing of the movie The Furious. Now, I'm sure a lot of people listening to this podcast are like, what the hell is The Furious? The Furious is absolutely grab you by the throat and doesn't let go fucking badass action. Holy shit, you have to see this movie. That's what The Furious is. Now, it's being compared to two of my most favorite action movies ever, which is The Raid and The Raid Two. Again, I've spoken about The Raid in my past my past podcasts. If you guys have never seen The Raid or The Raid Two, get on it. Yes, these are subtitled films. The Furious is not. The Furious is not a subtitled film. There's a few subtitles in The Furious, but The Furious is an English film. It is uh for America, which I give them a lot of credit for, because they could have easily made this movie out to be 100% subtitles. But I feel I feel the raid, as good as the raid is, and as much as people don't don't give a shit about reading subtitles, I can't lie, I do. I just don't have the uh attention span. Uh and I can read pretty quick. It's just I feel myself reading the subtitles and missing what's going on on the screen. And a lot of people be like, ah, you're an amateur, you're an idiot, uh, you you don't know anything. Just read the subtitles and deal with it. I'd rather listen, I know it sounds crazy, I'd rather listen to a dub movie than read subtitles. It's it's I just can't I can't do the the multitasking of reading on the bottom of the screen and constantly knowing what's going on on the screen. But with the raid, there's so much action in the raid, there's barely any subtitles. So if you haven't seen the raid or the raid two, get on it. You will your your jaw will hit the floor when you see the fight choreography that goes on in both of the raid movies. The second raid movie, the final fight scene in the second raid movie is the best fight scene you will get in any film in history. It is incredible, unreal. If you don't feel like sitting through the raid movies, just look up the final fight on YouTube of the Raid 2 and enjoy. It's out there. But if you watch that fight, I I if you're gonna go back and watch the movies, you know, you're kind of gonna poison yourself because each movie and each fight in each movie just outdoes itself, you know? So, but if you're one of those people who who isn't gonna watch the raids and isn't gonna sit through them, but you want to see what I'm talking about, look up the fight scenes on YouTube because they're fucking insane. And and you talk about talent with these individuals who who shoot, film, and choreograph these fight scenes. Now, The Furious, back to this. This is at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes right now, and it is unfucking real, the fight scenes that are in this movie. It's got a story of uh of kidnapping and child trafficking, which we all know is just fucking terrible and disgusting. And when you ever get some fucking villains that are doing some some child trafficking or kidnapping, you know you want to see these dudes get their medicine, and holy shit do they get it in this movie. It is incredible. When I sat down in this theater and I saw the Lionsgate logo come up on the screen, I went, fuck yes. Because I knew that the mystery movie was gonna be The Furious. Now, the other individuals in the theater, they they probably had no idea what they were seeing. They just knew the movie was gonna be rated R for strong bloody violence. Let me tell you, this theater was lit watching this movie. They were cringing, they were laughing, they were like, holy shit. I mean, they were talking, uh, which you know, you're like, man, you don't want to hear people talk in the theater, but it was during like the after afterwards of an action scene when something occurred. You'd hear people I'd hear people behind me like, holy shit, what the hell was that? And it was so fun to watch. Just talking about the furious gets me just hyped up. That movie is exactly what you want out of an action movie. And again, there's probably maybe 15% of the movie of the furious is in subtitles, maybe 15%, probably down to like 10%. They wanted to keep it as authentic as possible, I'm sure. Uh, but man, the talent of fight choreography, the talent of the actors who go into this movie, and and the actors that are in this movie, uh a handful of them are from the raid and the John Wick films. So you know these dudes know how to fight, they know how to put that shit on screen and make it look wildly authentic. And it is a brutal, brutally violent, fun, revenge movie. So please do yourself a favor. If you're looking for some badass action and you want to go to the theater, go to see The Furious. This movie still isn't out right now, it comes out this Friday, uh, June 12th, and unfortunately, it comes out the same day as Disclosure Day. So Steven Spielberg's film, Disclosure Day, comes out this Friday as well. And again, I'm gonna hearken back to when movies get released, especially a movie like The Furious, which isn't getting a lot of necessarily uh publis publicity or marketing. I've seen a couple previews on TV for it, but when you go up against a Steven Spielberg summer blockbuster film, you're gonna get swallowed up. And I just don't understand the release date. It makes me angry as a fan. I'm a fan of Disclosure Day. Of course I'm going to see Disclosure Day on opening weekend. I got reviews I gotta do here, but I just don't understand sometimes. There had to have been a better weekend to release The Furious. Why would you put it up against a Steven Spielberg blockbuster film? I don't I don't understand it, but hey, they don't pay me the millions of dollars to figure out that reason why. If they did, I'd figure it out. But I can't, for the life of me, I understand why they'd be releasing The Furious on the same weekend as Disclosure Day. But I did see The Furious, I was lucky enough to get that that previewing of the film, and holy shit, that is easily one of my top three movies of the year now. I have Obsession as um my number one film of the year, and yes, uh for sure The Furious has now made has now made my top three movies of the year. I I'm excited to see Disclosure Day. I'm not gonna dive uh too deep into that, but um just go see the Furious. I mean I sit here on my podcast and I tell you guys, I tell you guys and girls, everybody out there, I tell you all, I don't care what you are, go to see these movies. It actually blows my mind when I talk to someone and I say, Hey, do you watch movies? And they're like, Yeah, I go to the movies like once a year. I'm like, What? What do you mean once a year, man? What do you mean? Get up, get out, go to the movie theater, enjoy yourselves.

I mean, I go to these movies and and I get it, I said it before, these movies aren't cheap. Now I sit I sit in VIP seats when I go to these movies. The the VIP seats at my at my theater are they're they're badass. They are two rows of basically broken off seats. You can get two of them together, sometimes you can get three of them together. They are all like separated by these walls. So you and whoever you're with sits in these seats. You got uh a table to your left, a table between you, a table to your right, you got coat hangers behind you, and you have like this box that's built around you to where it's like nobody's even next to you. It's like you're sitting alone in the movie theater. So these VIP seats that I get at uh what my theater, I go to a MJR theater, it's called, and they are just on point. I won't even go to the movie if I can't get a VIP seat in these movies anymore. So if you get the chance, they are worth the money. If any of your theaters have VIP seats, buy them. They're worth it. I think they're like $2.50 a $2.50 more, or maybe $3 more a piece than sitting in one of the regular seats. Plus, they lean further back. I mean, they're just they're just by far the best seat you can sit in in the movie theater. So if you get the chance, if your theater has these VIP seats, give it a shot, give it a throw. They are on point. So this past weekend, because now, you know, I talked about those movies that just got released uh a couple weekends ago. So I gave you know the obsession and uh backrooms, passenger, uh so moving on to and of course the furious. I I just want to keep saying the furious. I gotta keep saying the furious. Go see the furious. I I I I cannot hype it enough. Just like obsession. I cannot hype these movies enough. There will be nobody. That comes back to me and tells me that they did not enjoy The Furious. It won't happen. Okay? So go see it. Now, moving on to what I saw this past weekend, uh I went and seen Scary Movie Six.

Now I I like all of the Scary Mies, and I like the Wayne's brothers. They they make they put out solid comedy content. Scary Movie Six is the worst movie that I've seen all year long. And I don't expect anything from scary movies. They are parody comedies with some of the dumbest types of jokes you you will ever see. Now, back in the day when the first one came out, that was it kind of like broke ground on the parody stuff, and it was a new, fresh thing. Scary Movie 6, it has set comedy back a hundred years. That's what Scary Movie 6 is. And this is also a divisive take, I guess. Uh I'm online. I follow all these movies, and I follow all the people who enjoy movies like myself. And there are people out there, just like with backrooms, where I wasn't necessarily this massive fan of that film. I did enjoy the the ride that backrooms kind of took me on for a little bit. But there are people just like with backrooms who just absolutely love that film. There are people who love scary movie six. Truthfully, I have no idea how. It was very close to me. I I could have I could have got up and walked out of scary movie six. It's that fucking stupid. It's imagine imagine a third grader writing down jokes. That that is what you get in scary movie six. And some people could be like, well, you should expect that. No. No, not at all. Not that bad. Okay? I realize I'm going to be getting some dumb fucking comedy when I see Scary Movie 6. Okay? I'm not oblivious to the fact that I'm going into a movie that is a comedy parody of all the movies that I like to go see. And I am a fan of the scary movie franchise. So I was excited when I saw that this came out. And when I saw the trailer for Scary Movie, I was like, this shit looks funny as hell, man. Of course I'm gonna be going to see this movie. But it's like they put all the funny parts in the trailer. Because the other parts in that movie were absolute pure ass. Some of the dumbest skits. It's like I was watching a like almost two-hour episode of Saturday Night Live Skits with just terrible writing. I don't know if they and they make fun of everything. Obviously, they try to offend everybody in this movie. It don't matter if you're straight, gay, trans, black, white, Asian, it don't fucking matter. There's no nothing is off limits in the scary movie, which is what I want. We need to get back to when comedy did offend people and people weren't necessarily gonna fucking whine and cry about it. Like grow a pair, okay? Grow up. Uh realize that you're allowed to laugh at yourself. That's that first and foremost, okay? So when you go to see a movie, don't walk out of it like, oh my god, I can't believe they did that. That's so offensive. Like, go fuck yourself, okay? Go fuck yourself. And when it comes to scary movie six, that's what I wanted. And and they do give you that. They give you the the the jokes where you're like, oh shit, here we go. And and they dive into all that type of stuff that they knew was going to be a bit divisive. Uh it's a it's kind of hard now to get canceled in a way, because it comedy is kind of getting back to where it is going to be offensive to people. That's at least what they're trying to get back to, and I'm here for it. I'm ready for that. That's what it what it needs to be. So if you are offended by anything in Scary Movie, you obviously weren't the target audience and you shouldn't have seen it in the first place. But I can't recommend this movie to anybody. There was about two scenes that were done really well, and I wish they would have done more scenes on that caliber, of course, than just this stupid. I mean, if you've seen any of the scary movies, you know Doofy, like the the dumb, which I'm gonna say it, I'm gonna say the R-word. He's the retarded cop who walks around and drooling all over himself, and it was just way too much of him in this movie. And he is a funny character, but why they even brought him back, I don't really know. I think it w I think they just did shit just to do shit. And if if you are a a fan of the scary movies, which I am, there's a chance you're you might walk out of this movie a little bit like that was some dumb shit. Because the the c the the jokes and the comedy just did not land. It did not stick for me for 90% of that movie. And I wasn't the only one that went and seen it. The other individuals that that I seen it with, they said the same exact thing. They did not necessarily enjoy this movie uh nearly as much as we were hoping. Uh, I would say if you're a fan of the franchise, even though I don't recommend this film, it's got a split decision on who does and does it, like it. So go to see it. I'm a little bit pissed that some of my money went to making this movie the number one movie uh of the weekend. I want to say it made around $55 million. It over-succeeded, and it's gonna make a lot of money. And it's furious because the next two movies that I talk about, I'm passionate about. I'm passionate about one of them more than the other, but I went and seen a total of three movies this weekend, and out of the three, the one that is complete and utter shit is making all the money. And it's gonna get a sequel. Scary Movie Six will get another one, because that's what happens when your movie makes money and people go to see it. The next one, I'll be honest, I might not even go see it. It's it's it kind of just depends on what I what I feel and what I get, but this one definitely put me off. So Scary Movie 6, I'm saying Scary Movie 6 was the worst movie of the year that I've seen so far. You couldn't pay me to sit through that garbage again. It wouldn't, it will not occur. So Scary Movie 6 gets a solid F from me. I can't recommend it. It's the dumbest shit I've ever seen. And if you go to see it and you have a different opinion, good for you. Uh that's what reviews are. They are opinions, and mine is mine, and I say that it's garbage. So moving on to the next film, which I really enjoyed. Power Ballad Stolen Song Story

weekend. Now, some of you are probably like, what the hell is Power Ballad? And that's understandable because Power Power Ballad didn't really get much marketing. You've seen maybe a couple trailers for it online. I honestly haven't seen one trailer for it on television, but they don't really uh market movies much on television unless you're like some major blockbuster. But uh when it comes to Power Ballad, Power Ballad is a movie with Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd, and Paul Rudd plays a wedding singer. The reason he's a wedding singer is because he used to be a uh a rock star, not well, I shouldn't say rock star. He was in a band and they were pretty successful when he was younger. They used to tour and do things. Um ultimately what happens is uh during his younger years, he meets someone on tour out in Ireland. Uh they um have a child, and he kind of has to give up on his dream of of being a rock star. He's still a good artist and a good writer, uh, but he decides to kind of put that on pause or basically give up on it as a whole so he can be with his family, which is the righteous thing to do, correct? And what most good people would do uh if that situation happened to them. So Paul Rudd's character is put in that position. Nick Jonas's character is a is a pop star. He uh we used to be in a boy band, um, he is a solo artist now, and he's trying to find his way as a solo artist. So long story short, what happens is these two kind of have uh a time in the movie where they come across one another and they kind of sit down for a little bit, and since both of them are are musicians, they bat ideas back and forth off of each other. Uh they're there's they're smoking, they're drinking, they're having a good time. Nick Jonas's character is super, super likable. Same for Paul Rudd. Nick Jonas to me is a likable dude as it is. Good looking, likable. Out of the Jonas brothers, man, uh I would think he'd be the one that I'd love to sit down, hang out with, have a drink. I think Nick Jonas is is a is an awesome artist. Uh, I think he's a great singer, and this movie gives him a chance to show his range as an actor as well, which I was impressed with in certain scenes with him and Paul Rudd, because you got somebody who uh like Paul Rudd who is a absolute seasoned A plus actor, and uh to be next to Paul Rudd can be something when you're just some young uh pop star in real life, which is what Nick Jonas is. So to see Nick Jonas perform the way that he did in this movie Power Ballad was impressive to me. But back to what occurs in this movie, long story short, Paul Rudd is in a mall, and it's about six months down the road from when he met Nick Nick Jonas' character, and he hears a song over the speaker in the mall. And that song is his song that he wrote, except for Nick Jonas's character stole it. So this song then becomes a number one hit on the radio. It is a massive sensation, it brings Nick Jonas' character uh into stardom again as a solo artist in this movie. He starts to tour, the song's number one, it's blowing up on all the charts, and Paul Rudd is trying to get what is rightfully his, which is some credit for this song that is number one in the world on the radio. And it goes into him trying to not only convince people that this is his song, the problem is he never finished this song. He doesn't have necessarily recordings or any type of proof that he can find, even though he knows he has it somewhere. It was song, it was a song that he like wrote down on a napkin at one point and then got rid of the napkin. And it was something that when he was younger he worked on, but he didn't have any files on his computer of him singing this song. He didn't have any proof that this song was his, but he knew that he made that song. He wrote that song and that Nick Jonas stole it, and it is now a massive hit. And you could imagine if that happened to you, if you were a regular individual who was a nobody, and somehow a song that you had that you wrote gets picked up by some massive artist and becomes a number one hit, and you're not getting any credit for it, how would you feel? So you get put in the situation of you're on Paul Rudd's side for him to be able to get some credit. And of course, you know, when you start getting into the ins and outs of the music industry, you have managers, publicists, you have people who make millions and millions of dollars who are are threatening you, saying you don't have any proof this song is yours, you need to shut your fucking mouth or we're gonna come down on you. And this guy is just a nice family guy who's just trying to get some type of credit, the credit that he deserves. So that is what the movie Power Ballad is about, and it is fucking good. It's one of the best movies I've seen this year, and it's not gonna make any money. It will be considered a box office fail because it's not going to bring in any money. However, I can't necessarily say that they thought this movie would bring in a ton of money, which makes me go, why the hell was it made then? That's that's the whole reason for making a movie is to entertain people and to make your money back. You know, now I don't think this movie costs that much to make, but at the same time, you want your movie to succeed in the theater. And with all this traffic in the movie theater right now, there is so much traffic in the movie theater right now. These movies that are good and are better than shit movies like Scary Movie aren't getting any eyes on it. So if you have a chance, now this is rated R. Power Ballad is rated R for uh drug use and profanity. There's a lot of F bombs in the movie that it, I mean, I drop them on this podcast. What are you gonna do? Deal with it. And there's uh there's drug use. I want to say there's some coke and there's some some weed use in the movie, which is shit. Weed is everywhere now. You can't even walk outside without smelling it. So I don't want to hear anybody getting all butthurt about some weed being smoked in some movie. But there's some drug use, there's some profanity, that's why it's rated R. You can get past it. I still consider this, even with the drug use and the profanity, it's a bit of a family movie. Like, there's not a shit ton of drug use. Yes, these guys are musicians and rock stars, so they're at some parties and you see some people smoking some weed, and you know, like it's it's not like this shit's like everywhere on the screen. Um, I'd say you could bring like your and I don't want to tell people what to do. I mean, but like if you got like a teenager, I mean they know what this stuff is. It's not like this movie's gonna make them go out and start doing blow, okay? Like, uh to me, it was a very, very well-done, heartfelt film with great performances from both Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd, and the music, it has original songs in it, which are sung by both Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, which surprisingly enough, I can't necessarily take Paul Rudd that seriously as a singer, but there is a soundtrack to this movie. If you want to look up the soundtrack to Power Ballad, there's a couple jams on it that are original songs, and Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas sing original songs on this. Uh, Nick Jonas actually just released a new album and I listened to it, and I was very disappointed with it. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with Nick Jonas' newest album. And what's crazy is he comes out with this movie and he's got a couple tracks on the soundtrack, and the songs on this soundtrack are better than any songs that he put on his own personal album, which just blows me away. But there's there's some good tracks on this album, plus they have the tracks that Paul Rudd's band sings at the weddings. So you can there are a lot of 80s pop songs that's played in this movie. Uh, that's what Paul Rudd's band focuses on. That's what a lot of wedding bands focus on. Uh the soundtrack is good. If you're into that type of music, scoop it up, give it a listen. If you're if you want to go see a good movie and something that's not too, I don't know, serious, even though there's a serious blend in this movie of of what's occurring, it's it's a great ride. This movie is a great ride with a great ending, and it hit all the right notes. You like that? Power Ballad hit all the right notes. Absolutely, I recommend this movie. You should absolutely go see Power Ballad in the theater. If you're not gonna go see it in the theater and you wait for streaming, either way, it's worth five dollars to go see uh or to buy when you if you watch it on your TV on some streaming platform. It's absolutely worth the price of admission. Uh, we enjoyed this movie thoroughly, and I would recommend this movie to everyone. So if you get a chance, go see Power Ballad. If you see it in the future and you haven't you haven't given it a chance yet, just know that uh yeah, Power Ballad gets a solid B plus for me. That was a fun, good movie. I enjoyed it. I think it's like an hour and a half long, so it's not long. Gets to the point. Give it a shot. And to wrap up this podcast, I am going to talk about the best movie that I've seen this past weekend.

Masters Of The Universe Wins Big

Um, and that would be Masters of the Universe. Simply put, He-Man is the shit. This movie was incredibly entertaining. Holy shit! I cannot believe how good they put this movie together. Obviously, I grew up in a time I had every single He-Man toy you could imagine. I had Battle Cat, I had He-Man and all his boys, I had all, I had Castle Gray Skull, I had I could go on and on and on about all the toys I had. What I wouldn't give to have those toys in front of me right now because holy shit, they gotta be worth some money if you got some He-Man toys. The original He-Man toys. So this is a fantasy movie, and I am I I can be a fan of fantasy films. My favorite trilogy of all time is Lord of the Rings, and it doesn't get any more fantasy of than that, right? So uh I am definitely a fantasy fan, but lately fantasy movies have not been have not been good. They've just been cheaply made, the budgets are cheaper, they look like garbage, the characters don't they just don't fit, and I want to say the the last fantasy movie that did well amongst people and uh critics was um Dungeons and Dragons. I want to say that and Dungeons and Dragons, I've never I never played Dungeons and Dragons, uh, but the movie was it was it was okay. It was okay. I it's nothing I would write home about. Alright. However, He-Man, Masters of the Universe, is one of the best fantasy movies I've watched in years, in a decade. It is so freaking fun. The characters are written absolutely perfect. Now, unfortunately, this movie is probably going to be considered a box office bust. It did make more than what it was projected to make. Let's see here. It made more than what it was projected to make total wise, because initially, like the first day of its screenings, it it didn't really pull in um it didn't really pull in a a crowd. So Masters of the Universe currently sits at fifty-four million dollars, which is not good for a movie that cost close to 200 million dollars to make, I wanna say.

I mean it's tragic to me that Masters of the Universe is going to potentially, like if you're reading the tea leaves here, it's gonna be a a massive financial loss for Amazon. Now, I don't feel sorry for Amazon. Amazon did make this movie, uh, Amazon uh Studios made it, and uh it's God, it's a hell of a film, man. They the casting, the casting is spectacular. Uh listen, everyone's like, man, they raced swap Man at Arms and put Edris Alba in it. Like, who fucking cares, dude? I mean, you can let Edris Alba do whatever the hell he wants to do. Let him do Bond, let him do Man at Arms. Let the dude be fucking Jesus Christ in a movie. I don't care. You throw that dude in a movie, I'm going to see it. I don't care if he's fucking black and the character used to be white, okay? Yes, there have been times when it feels like certain things like that in certain movies have been forced. Not the case at all in this film. Every character is perfectly placed. Every character. And the fight scenes in this movie. It's actually crazy because of course, you know, I talk about a movie like The Furious and the fight choreography that goes on in a film like that. That is what that movie, The Furious, is, though. That is the heart of the movie, is the fighting. In He-Man, the heart of the movie is the characters. That's what the heart of the movie is. But I'll be damned if this movie's action scenes weren't blow your wig back type shit. And it's it's fight scenes with everything from obviously this is a fantasy. World. You got laser guns. So you got the guns. You got the sword battles. And then you got the hand-to-hand combat battles that go on between He-Man and Skeletor and all the other villains. Dude, these this movie, it's it was about two hours and 25 minutes long. And that that did concern me a little at first. I'm like, man, do I really gotta be in this movie that long? Absolutely. Absolutely. You need to be in this movie. This movie starts off and it shows uh He-Man's childhood, which is so critical to the story. It shows you exactly what happens to his world, exactly why he was sent to Earth, and exactly how he becomes the character of He-Man. It is. This was a perfect fantasy movie. It was perfect. It is my my third or my fourth A film. This movie gets an A from me without a doubt. It was so fun. The theater was absolutely just completely engulfed in this film, clapping during the fight scenes and afterwards. It was one of those situations where you're sitting in the theater and you're like, that's where I say when I go to the movies, like the movie theater is my church, man. It's a religion for me. And to sit in a movie theater with other people who come to the theaters and they enjoy the movies as much as I do, there's just one, it's that feeling you get, you're amongst your people, you know? And I had a blast in this theater. I looked at my wife multiple times, like, dude, I got goosebumps. I got goosebumps. And of course, yes, I I grew up a He-Man fan. And you have the original movie with Dolph Lundren. And and and he you get some cameos in this film from the from the original original movie. Just go to see this film. This film was so much fun. And if you're if you're ever a He-Man fan when you were younger, which how can you not be if you were a younger kid? You weren't a He-Man fan, I question you. All right. Listen, this movie, this is a family film. You can bring your kids to see this movie. Whether they do or don't know or like or even have a clue of what He-Man is or was, you can bring your family to this film and you will have a blast. This movie was so much fun. I'm so pleased that they did this movie justice. Uh, we went and seen it on a Sunday yesterday, a Sunday night at like 7 p.m. And the theater was was pretty busy, which is surprising to me that the numbers are as low as it is because it had a crowd in it when I was there. But it's just one of those movies that it's getting released at the wrong time. And now you have disclosure day that comes out next week. It's gonna get drowned out by disclosure day as well. You know, you got a Steven Spielberg sci-fi action film that's coming out next weekend. I hope that things like this podcast, or just word of mouth from anyone, can help Masters of the Universe at least a little bit. I have to have a sequel to this movie. This movie ends, it has a perfect ending. Holy shit, the fight scene between He-Man and Skeletor at the end of this movie is fucking peak. It is awesome. It gives you everything you want in a film. And Jared Leto plays Skeletor in this movie. Jared Leto is a fucking plus as Skeletor in this movie. Skeletor and He-Man, the casting, are like, I mean, like every character, they're perfectly placed, perfectly casted, perfectly written, perfectly fleshed out. It was an awesome movie. Can't rave about it enough. I am so freaking stoked about what is going on in 2026 right now with films. It is blowing my mind. And the fact that I get the chance now, the fact going back to what I mentioned at the beginning of this episode, the fact that I get the chance to talk and review movies with people at Woodward Cinema and have an opportunity of a lifetime to make something of what I truly have passion for. We just got a notch, a deluxe nacho at our theater. The other a deluxe chicken nacho. I couldn't have got a better nacho at an authentic Mexican restaurant. Take that. You think I'm crazy? You think I'm crazy? Go try that shit yourself and then tell me I'm crazy. What do you want? You want sweets? They got they got cinnamon and sugar, donuts like you just bought them from the goddamn apple orchard. They got French toast sticks, they got ice cream, they got burgers with fries, chicken tenders, mini tacos, cheese sticks. And this shit isn't just made sitting under a heater. It actually takes time. They will deliver this shit to you at your seat if you want. A lot of times I just get there early enough to make my orders. I'm walking up in the theater.
